Patagonia inspires train driver artist’s paintings

A train driver by day, an artist by night, Eddie Davies will have his latest work displayed at Todmorden railway station next month in a South America-themed exhibition called Cubism and Patagonia.

Eddie and wife Caroline of Owen Road in Rosegrove were married on Easter Island in December 2008.

The happy couple then embarked on their honeymoon, travelling from Santiago, Chile to the southernmost tip of South America.

The Patagonia region’s breathtaking scenery - particularly its glacial fjords - was something the lifelong art-lover had always wanted to paint, but it was only recently that he felt capable of doing so.

Another trip with Caroline - to Canada in 2013 - and painting the photographs he took there helped him hone his craft in preparation for his third solo exhibition.

“I have been an art lover ever since I was a little kid, but have only been painting seriously since the end of 2012, when I got a studio at Higherford Mill in Barrowford” he said

“There is a good group of artists there, bouncing ideas off each other.

“I started to paint the Canadian Rockies using cubism, and that gave me the confidence to tackle Patagonia.

“It is such a beautiful, sparse, desolate place you can’t help but be inspired by it.

“I’m really excited about the exhibition to be honest.”

Cubism and Patagonia by Eddie Davies runs at Todmorden railway station, Platform One Gallery, from Thursday September 3rd to Sunday September 27th. The gallery is closed Monday to Wednesday, and open 11am to 4pm, Thursday to Sunday.
