Just weeks before the curtain rises on its production of “Aladdin” one of its cast members has gone missing... oh yes he has!

Well part of him anyway. For Tyson the giant panda who flew in all the way from the bamboo fields of China to perform with the pantomime society has lost his head – literally.

Is it a case of stage fright or is there a more sinister solution to the case of the missing monster bear?

It seems the head of the giant panda costume was left in a bag after rehearsals in Brierfield Methodist Church.

But when the cast turned up for rehearsals last Tuesday night Tyson’s head was missing, leaving them bamboozled.

Panto society members believe Tyson was mistakenly sold at a Christmas Fair at the church the previous Saturday.

And now the race is on to find the woman who bought him before the curtain goes up on “Aladdin” at Burnley Mechanics on January 15th.

Church officials believe she is a regular attender at their car boot sales, but do not know who she is.

Joint director of “Aladdin” Neil Tranmer bought the life-size bear from China and he is due to appear in the panto alongside Wishee Washee who is said to be inconsolable.

Kevin Kay who plays the dame in the panto said: “We need Tyson’s head back. If anyone knows the lady who bought him, or if you are her, please get in touch. He was sold in error and we want him back.”

If you know of Tyson’s whereabouts please call Kevin on 423280 or society chairman Hazel Hodder on 01200 429440.
