No need to give ex MP Freedom of Borough

I have to disagree with Coun. Mark Townsend and also your own editor on the article concerning ex-Burnley MP Peter Pike receiving Freedom of the Borough.

Peter Pike

There is no doubt Peter Pike spent a large chunk of his working career, working for the people of Burnley (but here lies the clue).

Mr Pike was employed by the people of Burnley and by this was well paid as we all know MPs are, and he is now enjoying his retirement on what I imagine is more than a decent pension.

So no, I for one do not believe a person should be honoured for doing a very well-paid job. There are many people who dedicate their lives to others for no pay at all – these are the people who need to be recognised and honoured.
