Literacy and numeracy standards must be raised

But I don’t see how the proposal for alternative tables, aimed at by-passing political involvement in school data, can be described as “independent”.

It is also argued they will be more objective than the Government’s tables but surely if the schools are generating the information they will actually be subjective and far from independent.

They want to include information on subjects such as sport and music.

Schools should obviously be more than just the sum of exam results and parents want their children educated to be rounded human beings.

But let’s remember that literacy and numeracy are the bedrock of a functioning existence and standards generally need to be raised and strictly monitored.
