LETTER: What does MP have to say about food banks?
I WOULD welcome the comments of our MP Mr Gordon Birtwistle on two items which appeared in the Express on January 29th.
The first item related to the “Scandal of families forced to rely on Foodbank handouts”.
The second was regarding Burnley being one of the “sorry seven” areas in the country hardest hit by Government cuts. In this item Liberal Peer Tony Greaves said cuts in cash grants to Burnley were much higher than the 8.5% claimed by the Government as the maximum cut imposed on local councils. Calling for more help for East Lancashire, Lord Greaves said it was time local MPs became more effective in this matter.
