LETTER: Thanks for saving my life

May I express my sincere thanks to all the many people (168!) who sent me cards and letters while I was in hospital last November.

I was deeply and completely overwhelmed by all the love and warmth. It was a very humbling experience which I shall never forget. Trudy, the Australian lady, Mrs Bedford, James Bunker and the paramedics who saved my life. The care and attention I received at both hospitals – The Royal Blackburn Hospital and Blackpool Victoria – was superb. I cannot thank them enough. I feel very grateful I am mobile again. Cycling is on hold for another three months. I am walking and exercising daily.

Mr Zacharias, my brilliant surgeon, said he was extremely pleased to see me doing so well and has discharged me, but I must not undo all the good achieved so far. The road ahead is still long, but with patience and endurance I should be feeling even better. A realistic figure – probably a year!
