LETTER: £1,200 help for disabled students

AS the new academic year begins, Contact a Family is urging parents with a disabled child planning to stay on in further education to get advice about whether they qualify for the Government’s new bursary for 16 to 19-year-olds.

Parents might be unaware the new bursary is available from this September for 16-19-year-olds in further education. This is being introduced as a replacement for the Educational Maintenance Allowance. The most vulnerable students will be guaranteed a payment of £1,200 a year - and this includes some young disabled students.

For details about whether your son or daughter could be eligible for a payment of £1,200 call Contact a Family’s Helpline on 0808 808 3555.
