LETTER: No parking special treatment for town hall staff

I’d like to correct something that appeared in Mr Pendle’s Diary last week about Nelson town centre parking.

Mr Pendle suggested council staff have their own car park outside the town hall. This is simply not the case. There are a limited number of spaces outside the town hall for visitors and disabled members of the public. Our Chief Executive and Directors also have their own car parking spaces on private land. The remainder is a short term public car park available to all.

The vast majority of our staff are in the same position as Mr Pendle and other town centre workers. A few have permits to park on Morrison’s underground car park, a similar walk to Mr Pendle’s. The rest have to use on-street parking or long stay car parks, again a similar distance to Mr. Pendle.
