I might stand against Nigel Evans

So, the long-awaited decision on Nigel Evans’ future turned out to be a sweep-it-under-the-carpet type of exercise.

This in itself is not such a great surprise, because as soon as the decision was deferred for several weeks it becomes very difficult to sustain opposition through the Press, as everyone has to get on with their own lives. Many hundreds of people have told me over the past four months or so that they will not vote for Nigel after his much-publicised behaviour, but unless someone is prepared to put themselves up for election on May 7th (or earlier) this will not carry much weight.

From my point of view I have put myself forward against Nigel before and would probably be prepared to do so again if there was sufficient interest.

However, I am going away for a few days and don’t want to get involved in any campaign until after the bonfire and Remebrance Day observations.

Congratulation to Nigel. You won the battle but you may not yet win the war!
