Do mobility scooter users expect preferential treatment?

Sorry but this is likely to annoy a few people: do disabled wheelchair users expect preferential treatment?

This is aimed not at service people or those with missing limbs but at the growing number of users of electronic wheelchairs who are now demanding space be found for them on public transport as well as special access to buildings and facilities.

As a 79-year-old with a walking stick, I look for consideration and assistance but don’t make demands that put the public to great inconvenience and I certainly expect those who use the things to be able to manage them efficiently in all confined spaces.

Can they be expected to have had some instruction before being let loose?
