Clitheroe needs a Neighbourhood Plan

There was also a mention of a Clitheroe Town Centre Masterplan!

There was no evidence of retention of a market that Clitheroe has had for centuries.

But moving on, something else is happening in the Ribble Valley that might just open opportunities that parishioners desire.

Longridge, through its Town Council, is proceeding with a Neighbourhood Plan. This is enshrined in up-to-date legislation and embodies everything planning to achieve local goals approved by local people.

I think it is time Clitheroe Town Council kicked off a similar process before it misses out altogether and big business takes over.

And just last week on the regional news it was reported that Tatton in Cheshire is being challenged by housing developers because, through its Neighbourhood Plan, housing is being restricted as to the number of dwellings per site.

Readers may recall a bit of a spat at the time of the last by-election in Clitheroe (Lib-Dem gain) by the Tories over the impossibility of such an imposition.

Time to rethink, don’t you think, and start on a Neighbourhood Plan for Clitheroe to make clear where and what the town and its people want.
