Burnley FC promotion will raise our international profile
We have recently been hearing about the way the Clarets’ promotion to the Premiership will raise the profile of the town around the world.
In the early ’60s I had first-hand experience of this. As the scouter in charge of the 16th Burnley Senior Scouts I led a party of 10 senior scouts on a trip to the Black Forest, Germany.
When booking our party in at a youth hostel in a mountain village, I was met with the comment: “Ah, Burnley FC”. This was when, along with Spurs, we were the country’s top two teams.
