Today’s neon-blazing bars don’t have same appeal

So time has been called on yet another Burnley pub – the General Scarlett – and sadly, it won’t be the last to call last orders forever.

Those of us of more mature years have fond memories of the local boozer which served not only as a place to quench your thirst, but also as a community hub.

As a trainee newshound the local pub was a great source of stories with the local ale loosening tongues over a game of pool or darts.

Friendships were forged and the world put to right over a foaming glass of best bitter. Somehow today’s glass-fronted, neon blazing bars do not hold the same appeal.
