Strictly Come Dancing: I’d rather watch paint dry

No doubt hundreds of people across Pendle will be glued to their television screens this weekend as the new series of “Strictly Come Dancing” began.

Regular readers will not be surprised to learn Mr Pendle will not be among them.

He just cannot see what the fascination is in watching a host of C-list – at best – celebrities dancing with professional dancers.

The same goes for “Celebrity Big Brother” and its collection of oddballs and weirdos playing up to the cameras.

The whole thing is a turn-off as far as Mr Pendle is concerned.

But, then again, regular readers will be well aware of Mr Pendle’s thoughts on celebrities, whatever their status, and their unfailing ability to make their adoring fans worship their every move.

So who are these would-be dancers?

Mr Pendle took a look at the list of those taking part in the show and found he had only heard of two of the 15 – Judy Murray (tennis player Andy’s mum) and the bespectacled bow-tied auctioneer and antiques programme eccentric Tim Wonnacott.

The majority of the rest were all either singers from different eras or genres to those followed by Mr Pendle or actors and actresses from programmes not watched by him.

So what does all this say about Mr Pendle?

That is for others to decide – but what he can say is that if he was given the choice of watching dancing on TV or paint dry, dancing would come a distant second.
