Let’s sort local network first

The multi-billion pound project would supposedly cut travel time between the two cities in half.

On the face of it, not a bad idea. Supporters say that it would create a more transient skilled workforce in the North-West.

But hang on a minute, surely the money would be better spent on restoring the rail network that once linked smaller towns and villages to the major conurbations.

What use is a high speed rail ink if you can’t even get to the main station in the first place?
