Brewery review: Reedley Hallows Brewery

Reedley Hallows Brewery has only been producing beer for 20 months. But it that short space of time, it has it has built an excellent reputation for its range of craft produced beers.

It is situated on the Farrington Close Industrial Estate in Burnley. And has just moved to an impressive new base, not far from their original premises.

The brewery has had to move to larger site, to cope with the ever increasing demand for their beers, and is operating on a three and a half brewery barrel plant(brewery barrel = 288 pints).

Multi-award winning head brewer, Pete Gouldsborough gave me some idea of how the brewery is coping with increased production, and the popularity of his beers. Pete said: In the last 18 months we have increased production by 300%, in order to cope with demand. The new facilities enable us to produce 35-40 brewery barrels a week, and we have just installed seven new brewing vessels in the purpose built fermentation room.”

Peter is well known in local brewing circles, and has a long list of award winning beers from his time in the industry. His latest one, New Laund Dark, was the champion beer at September’s Burnley Beer Festival.

The new brewery has also installed a bar facility and hospitality suite on the first floor. And will now be able to accommodate brewery tours at the plant. They have all their four beers to sample - and a fifth will be unveiled soon.

Peter said: “Our four beers are very much in demand, and so we have decided to brew a fifth brand. It will be launched and named on the 14th December at the brewery, to coincide with the East Lancs CAMRA presentation of our award winning, New Laund Dark stout.”

Inquisitive as ever, I asked Pete to whisper the name of the new beer. Pete said: “Briggsy, good try, but you will have to wait! The name will be chosen from a competition we had at the Burnley Beer Festival.We had over 100 entries. And it will be nice that the local CAMRA members, who organised the festival, will be here, and be the first to sample the new beer.”

Reedley Hallows Brewery is undoubtably a local success story. And Pete and his team are obviously masters in brewing craft ales. Their four beers are of exceptional quality and taste. And I look forward to it soon becoming a quality quintet.
