Are our courts too lenient?

Are we getting too soft on criminals? Glancing through the many court cases that appear in our newspapers makes for concerning reading when it comes to the severity of sentences.

Many repeat offenders, who obviously show little or total disregard for the law, seem to get treated far too lightly by the courts.

Now I am not blaming the magistrates as they have to stick to recommended sentencing supplied by the Home Office.

But most decent law-abiding folk must wonder just who makes these recommendations at times.

Agree or disagree? Would tougher sentences deter crimiinals from re-offending or is prison a ‘soft option’ these days?
