A student hopes to conquer her fear of heights by jumping 15,000ft out of a plane for the charity BK's Heroes tomorrow.

Olivia Haynes is a Year 11 student at Blessed Trinity Roman Catholic College and told family friend Ben King, who set up the brain and kidney charity, that she would jump out of the plane for him.

Sadly Ben, from Burnley, died in February this year but this has only made Olivia more determined. “It may seem like a crazy idea but, as a young boy, Ben was diagnosed with a rare condition which caused his kidneys to fail,” said Olivia, who is studying for her GCSEs.

“When he was 17 his dad, Dave King, donated one of his kidneys in the hope Ben could lead a normal life but, a few years later, Ben fell ill and it was revealed he had a cancerous brain tumour the size of an apple.

“As a result, he couldn’t have treatment for either condition but he remained positive and created BK’s Heroes to remember him and to help other families in a similar situation.

“When I told Ben I was going to do a sky dive for his charity he was excited but he died before I could do it. Despite being terrified of jumping out of a plane, I aspire to show what Ben did through his journey - bravery and selflessness. I have paid for the sky dive myself and all the money raised will go to BK’s Heroes.”
