As well as liaising with event organisers at the Barnfield Training Centre, the trio met representatives from partner charities including Burnley Leisure Trust, Every Action Has Consequences, Macmillan Cancer Support, Burnley FC in the Community, Pendleside Hospice and the Jane Tomlinson Appeal.

"I've probably only done 10k in a game," said Burnley's £6m record signing Gray. "I've never done it free running. It's always good to give back because there are all sorts of charities out there.

"I'll never turn stuff like this down because it means a lot, obviously with everyone raising the money.

"Burnley is a big community. We're all as one and we're all fans as well. We all stick together. They stick with us on the pitch and we'll stick with them off the pitch."

Runners will take on a new route this year. Starting in the picturesque surroundings of Towneley Park, it guides runners along Todmorden Road, along Belvedere Road, in the shadow of Turf Moor, and in to Thompson Park, before returning for a grand finish in the jewel of Burnley's crown.

Vicki Robinson, PR manager for the Burnley 10k, said: "It's back for a fourth year and it's really popular in Burnley and surrounding areas. We'll hopefully have around 2,000 people taking part.

"We started year one hoping it would be popular but not knowing if it was something that people would want. As it turned out people loved it so we've been back every year since.

"Wherever we organise our runs we always try to partner with as many local charities as we can and encourage people, if they can, to support one of those charities so that money that is raised stays in the area."

Vicki added: "We have a slightly new route this year. Some of the old route remains but we've got a different start and finish. It starts and finishes in Towneley Park in front of the Hall so I'm sure people won't be disappointed to hear that the uphill finish has gone this year.

"It's always really popular. If people have done it once or twice then this will give them something new to have a go at. It's a bit of a change but it's still scenic and it's still one of the greenest runs that we do.
