Aldi’s proposal for a second food store in Burnley moved a step closer with the submission of its planning application to Burnley Borough Council.

Aldi hopes to redevelop land off Todmorden Road with a new food store. The site is currently occupied by an industrial unit, car wash and scrap metal storage site.

The proposal would see Aldi have a second store in the town, as the existing store at Active Way will remain open.

Aldi told the Express it had received a positive response to its plans, which were unveiled at a public exhibition in February, with 96% of all feedback received from the community supporting a new Aldi store in the east of Burnley.

A spokesman for the business said: “We are encouraged by support we have received from the local community for our plans for a second food store in Burnley.

“At our exhibition, many residents told us they currently have to travel across town to shop with us.

“We feel a new store offers a great opportunity to increase local-shopping choice and improve convenience for residents in the east of Burnley.

“The proposal will deliver a multi-million pound investment in the local area and create up to 40 much-needed new jobs, as well as reviving the site and improving the appearance of Todmorden Road.”

Burnley Council will determine the application, with a decision expected to be made in late summer.

Aldi would like to encourage anyone who would like to find out more details about its proposal for Burnley to contact the project team on the information line number, 0800 298 7040, or visit the project website, www.aldiconsultation.co.uk/burnley.
