Civic and faith leaders joined members of the public in Burnley to pay their respects at a sombre Holocaust Day memorial service, captured in photos by Andrew Smith.

Holocaust Memorial Service at the Peace Garden, Burnley.

Rabbi Arnold Saunders gave a reading at the Peace Garden in Croft Street, while Faith Centre ambassador Afrasiab Anwar read a Muslim Prayer of Peace.

Fr Peter Hopkinson, of St Mary’s RC Church, and the Rev. Patrick Senior, of St Peter’s Church, also led prayers.

Other notable figures at the service included Sabden man Mark Woodward, who is a fellow of the Imperial War Museum, Burnley MP Gordon Birtwistle, Mayor of Burnley Coun. Andy Tatchell and Mayor of Padiham Coun. Howard Hudson.
