New butcher's for Burnley

The £250,000 investment into the empty unit in St James’s Street is part of the Rotherham based retailer’s planned growth strategy.

It will be the 49th store for the fast growing butchery chain and is the 19th opening in the North West.

By 2022, Crawshaws Group will invest £200m, opening 200 stores and creating 2,500 jobs.

Chief executive Noel Collett, who was credited as transforming Lidl, said he was excited about his new business coming to Burnley.

He said: “We’re very excited to be opening our next store in The Charter Walk Shopping Centre.

“We have already created around 100 jobs in the North West over the last six months.

“Regardless of experience we are looking for people to be a part of an exciting and rapidly growing company and welcome those with a hunger for growth to get in touch.

“Around 85% of our butchers are trained within the store, having come to us from a range of previous roles, and 70% of our store managers are trained and promoted within the business.”

The new 2,300 square foot unit will occupy the old Evans store and will offer freshly prepared meat as well as a “food to go” menu, recently launched under the Butcher’s Kitchen brand.

Charter Walk manager Chris Gribben said: “It’s a new and different use for the town centre.

“Crawshaws has proved to be very successful in the region, and this will benefit the town and complement the shopping centre.

“I am sure they will do a very professional refit of the unit which is in a great location.”
