There was an overall pass rate of 100% last year, with 85% of students gaining A* to C grades.

And the college was also named the top college in the country for A-Level Value Added scores.

Now principal Amanda Melton has expressed her delight at the statistics, adding that it shows “students continue to shine and compete against the very brightest students in the UK”.

She said: “Once again, I am astounded by the phenomenal success which Nelson and Colne College students have gone on to achieve.

“I’m not sure that parents and aspiring young people in the region fully recognise just how good this college is.

“I came here two years ago and did not have an understanding about just how successful and aspirational the staff and students here are.

“That a small sixth form in a quiet corner of the North-West outperforms all other colleges, school sixth forms and grammar schools year after year in the area is astonishing.

“I am immensely pleased to be leading a beacon for A-Level study, and such a tremendous group of staff.
