Nelson children stage hard-hitting play at Burnley Youth Theatre

YOUNG people from a Lancashire County Council children’s unit in Nelson have helped to create a hard-hitting drama - and put it on the stage.

The youngsters, along with others from Preston, Rawtenstall and Oswaldtwistle, performed “It’s Your Choice” before an invited audience at Burnley Youth Theatre, whose staff helped in the production.

The play tells the story of a day in the life of a group of friends who are each faced with a question they must answer – and a choice they must make.

Its production marked the conclusion of two months’ work including dance, photography, art and filming. The project was funded with a £6,500 grant from Lancashire Corporate Parenting Board.

County Coun. Tony Winder, chairman of the board, thanked Burnley Youth Theatre for its support and said: “This summer has been a very special one for the young people involved. They have had a fabulous time working on this excellent production and I know they’ve learned new skills that will serve them well over time.

“Equally importantly, they’ve had fun, and made new friends. I am very proud of them all.”
