‘Mr Burnley Light Opera’ Colin dies
His name was synonymous with the amateur group he supported and guided for decades, and he had just been honoured with most highly prized award in the world of amateur theatre in recognition of his work.
Mr Sanderson had not been well since a fall in October and was in hospital being treated for a chest infection. He had not been well enough to attend a presentation ceremony, and was thrilled when his family took the NODA Long Service Medal to his bedside.

Hide AdA second honour bestowed on him only days before he died will be a lasting monument at the Mechanic’s Theatre, where the bar next to the auditorium has been renamed “The Colin Sanderson Theatre Bar”.
