Monte Carlo or bust for Pendleside Hospice

Nine men and one woman are on a four-day road trip around the Continent in the ultimate European banger challenge when Monte Carlo and a £2,000 boost for Pendleside Hospice and other charities is firmly in their sights.

The friends are taking part in the fun classic car chase across France and Germany driving old bangers that they bought for around £300 each. They headed by ferry to Belgium and are now covering a 250 to 300 mile journey each day in a cavalcade of 89 cars from all over the world in the famous rally, heading through the Black Forest region of Germany and ending with a lap of the Formula One circuit in Monaco. The idea is then to scrap the bangers and head home.

Behind the wheels are Rod McGlynn (47) who works for Burnley Council and Scott Taylor (42) in a Vauxhall Astra; Liam Murtaugh (46) and Mark Robinson (46) in a Saab; Alison Davies (50) and Nick Walsh (38) also in an Astra; Dugald Craig (52) and Raymond Worrall (55) in a Rover 45; and Leighton Hammond (37) and Mike Jones (60) in a Saab.
