Missing pensioner found safe and well after major search operation

A large scale search operation was conducted yesterday evening (Friday) after reports a vulnerable man was missing in the Colne area.

Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue Teams and Lancashire Fire and Rescue service were involved to help find 79-year-old Mr Harry Waite.

Within an hour of the request, team leaders from each service met at an RV point and over 30 people were mobilised.

The search operation lasted over six hours and Mr Waite was located safe and well by mountain rescue.

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: "This was due to their vast search expertise, dedication and professionalism. A heartfelt thank you to the Mountain Rescue Teams and Lancashire fire crews who attended from all over the county and further.
