Missing Burnley dog Nipper found dead

A missing dog which captured the imaginations of hundreds of animal lovers in Burnley has been found dead.

Jack Russell “Nipper” fled in terror after his owner Ian Plowright was involved in a car crash in Colne Road back in March.

Ian (69), of Windermere Avenue, was left devastated at losing his beloved pet but hundreds of people in the town rallied to help find the little black and white dog.

A Facebook group to find Nipper swelled to more than 900 members, dozens of people joined the search and the family even put out a £500 reward in a bid to bring him home.

But sadly his body was found by railway workers on the train line in Barden Lane on Tuesday.

Wendy Shaw, Ian’s daughter, said: “It is a real shame. We have been searching for Nipper non-stop for six weeks.

“My dad is devastated. But he said at least he has some closure that Nipper is not out there in the cold suffering.”

Wendy said people in Burnley have given the family amazing support, saying:“The general public have been absolutely fantastic through it all. It has been overwhelming the amount of help and support we have had from people just to find a little dog that they never even knew.

“It is amazing how people have just come together. It is nice to know that there’s caring people out there still.”

Nipper was given a proper burial by the family.
