May Day festivities planned in Burnley

Crowds are expected to flock to the May Day festival in a Burnley park over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Thousands of people turned out for the annual festival in Towneley Park last year and organisers hopes the event will prove just as popular in 2014.

Families can enjoy fun fair rides and a host of attractions including magic shows, children’s activities, stalls in the park on Bank Holiday Monday.

A traditional parade involving the Labour Party and members of local trade unions will set off from the town hall to the park from noon.

Burnley Council Leader Julie Cooper will make a speech to crowds at the park alongside Labour’s European candidates for the North-West Wajid Khan and Julie Ward.

Festivities will go on until around 4pm at the event which has been running ever May Day Bank Holiday since 1978.
