The corridors of Burnley College were swapped for the streets of London for one hardy tutor who completed the capital's famous marathon.

The college’s Head of Construction David Lord completed the 26.2 mile course of what was the hottest London Marathon on record in a time of 4:59:42, running for LAM Action, which provides support for women with lymphangioleiomyomatosis.

He said: “I’m very happy. I’m glad that I’ve done it. I would have liked a better time, but considering the weather and how hot it has been I’m glad I’ve achieved it.”

David (40) has previously run in four marathons and decided to run the London Marathon in support of LAM Action because his friend Matt Sharples’ wife, Sarah, suffers from LAM and had to have a kidney removed as a result.

“I really wanted to support her and support the charity, and I’d always wanted to do the London Marathon. Having done four marathons before I really wanted to do one of the world’s biggest ones,” he said.

David’s wife Mandy and his three daughters Elise, Cameron, and Harper were there to support him.

David is hoping to raise £2,500 for LAM Action, which provides support for women with LAM, and also raises funds for research into the condition, which only affects women.
