Man suffers broken leg after pick axe attack

Police are appealing for information after a man was left with a broken leg after being seriously assaulted in Burnley on Wednesday afternoon.

The attack happened at around 3-30pm in Northwood Close, off Wellfield Drive, when the victim, aged 38 from Colne, was doing some work on a house in the area and was approached by a man who had got out of a white cabbed Ford Transit flatbed vehicle.

The offender launched an unprovoked assault, striking the victim with a pick axe handle and left the area in the same vehicle which he arrived in.

DC Phil McGauley, from Burnley CID, said: “This was a shocking attack that came from nowhere with the victim being assaulted without any warning. He had to be taken to hospital where he was treated for a badly broken leg.

“I am asking any witnesses or anyone with information that could assist with our investigation to please get in touch at their earliest opportunity.”
