Man rushed to hospital with head and spinal injuries after Burnley police chase crash

A man has been taken to hospital after a short, early-morning police chase ended in a serious crash on Colne Road, Burnley.

At around 3-30am today (Tuesday), officers from Lancashire Constabulary spotted a suspect vehicle in Burnley. Following a short pursuit, the car - a Hyundai - was involved in a collision with street furniture and other parked vehicles on Colne Road at the junction of Casterton Avenue.

A police spokesman confirmed the driver, a man in his twenties, has been taken to Royal Preston Hospital with suspected head and spinal injuries.

Emergency services remain on the scene and the road has been closed. Motorists are asked to avoid the area and find an alternative route.

A police investigation is under way and anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact police.

A spokesman for Lancashire Constabulary said: "At around 3-30am today, police spotted a suspect vehicle in Burnley. Following a short pursuit, the vehicle, a Hyundai car, was involved in a collision with street furniture and other stationary vehicles on Colne Road at the junction with Casterton Avenue. The driver, a man in his 20s, has been taken to Royal Preston Hospital with suspected head and spinal injuries. The road is currently closed and a police investigation is under way."
