Man cut free from car after M65 smash

A man was cut free from the wreckage of a car after a motorway smash in Burnley.

Firefighters used hydraulic cutters to rescue the victim who was trapped in the vehicle following the triple collision on the M65.

Three cars were involved in the smash on the stretch of motorway between Burnley and Brierfield around 5pm.

The accident happened between Junctions 11 and 12 on the eastbound carriageway.

The crash caused rush-hour traffic chaos for drivers around Burnley.

Police were forced to close the section of the M65 towards Nelson causing long tailbacks as far back as the Accrington junction, according to reports.

Traffic began moving again around 7pm after the blocked lanes were cleared.
