Man (71) dies after crash

A WHALLEY man who was involved in a head-on crash in Sabden has died in hospital.

Mr Michael Shaw (71), was rushed to Royal Blackburn Hospital when the Ford Focus he was driving was in collision with a Ford Escort.

The accident happened on Whalley Road, next to Hillside Farm, just after 9-30 a.m. last Friday (February 11th).

The Focus was travelling in the direction of Sabden while the Escort was heading towards Whalley.

Mr Shaw spent the past seven days in hospital where his condition was described as “critical” and “life threatening”.

The occupants of the Escort, two men aged 54 and 31 from Darwen, were also taken to hospital with “serious but not life threatening” injuries. The road was closed for several hours to allow for an accident investigation.
