Machete raider target Burnley bookies

Police are hunting a machete-wielding man who escaped with £300 in cash from a Burnley bookmakers.

The frightening incident happened around 8-30pm on Tuesday in the Coral shop in Hammerton Street.

A woman working in the shop was left badly shaken when she was threatened with the large knife by the intruder.

Detectives are now trawling CCTV footage to discover the identity of the raider who may have escaped on a BMX bike.

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: “The offender was described as an Asian man, around 6ft 1in. tall, of stocky build, wearing dark clothing. He may also have been wearing a balaclava.”

Police are now conducting with local businesses including the Bee’s Knees bar opposite and a number of nearby takeaways.
