Luke home is ‘best Christmas present’

Brave Burnley teenager Luke Mason, who is back home following a serious road accident, is the best Christmas present his parents could have wished for.

Luke, who came home on his 14th birthday in October, still requires intensive physiotherapy, as well as speech and language therapy, but is making good progress from the horrific injuries he suffered as a result of a car accident near his home in February.

Relieved parents Ben and Sarah had been making daily trips to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool for eight months before Blessed Trinity pupil Luke was given the all-clear to come home.

And the keen Clarets fan had a present of his own when he was met by his Burnley heroes on a visit to hospital.

Mum Sarah said: “We are so happy to have Luke home for Christmas. It has been a long and tough journey for us all. I would like to thank all the doctors, nurses, friends and family who have helped over the last few months. They have been absolutely fantastic.”

Sarah said that Luke, who underwent several operations, will start at a specialist school in January where he will also undergo speech and language therapy. He must still have regular trips back to hospital, but Sarah revealed that everyone is pleased with how he is progressing.

She said: “Luke is doing well. He can’t speak but he understands everything. He does high-fives and thumbs-ups.”
