The money was raised from the end of class raffles and also a members-run charity stall, which dancers donate to and sells plants, vegetables, books, bric-a-brac and unwanted gifts.

It, too, opens at the end of classes, which are held three times a week at Brierfield Working Men’s Club in Walter Street.

This year is the seventh consecutive year that the dancing club – founded 18 years ago by dance teacher Pam Hartley – has given money to Rosemere. Its members also support other local charities, including the North West Air Ambulance, Pendleside Hospice and Derain House Children’s Hospice. Over the years they have raised about £45,000 for causes.

Pam said: “Raising money for charity is something we’ve always done and members are keen to continue. When we learned of the Rosemere Burnley Chemotherapy Unit Appeal, everyone was very keen to support it.”

The appeal aims to raise £100,000 towards a new £200,000 state-of-the-art chemotherapy unit at Burnley General Hospital, which is the treatment centre most often used
 by Pendle cancer patients.

Once built, the new chemotherapy unit will replace Burnley General’s current much smaller one..
