Fracking is the controversial drilling technique designed to recover gas and oil from shale rock.

Plans are afoot to begin using the process, which has prompted several environmental concerns, in the north of England but the Keep East Lancashire Frack Free is doing its utmost to make sure it never does.

Doug Crabtree was at a protest held at the Burnley Bandstand and he said: “Members of the public need to be made aware of fracking.

“They need to know about the dangers associated with it and the propaganda that is coming from the Government.”

Burnley College student Beana Hussain (19) was also at the protest.

She said: “We don’t want it in our town. The Government is saying that it will help the economy. It will do but we won’t see the money and it will ruin the environment.
