Vulcan bomber XH558 will pass over the region in one of her last flights before being permanently grounded later this month.

The unmistakable delta-winged aircraft, nicknamed the “Big Tin Triangle,” is finally being put out to grass as an exhibit in her own special hangar at Doncaster Airport.

But before that happens she is being flown on a farewell tour of as much of the country as possible, passing over special points associated with her long career.

The plane, which was the RAF’s last flying Vulcan before it was retired and sold off in 1993, will head over from Manchester to BAE Systems at Warton on Saturday afternoon.

From there she will go to Inskip and then turn to pass over the north of Preston heading for Samlesbury, before flying off to East Lancashire and then the Lake District.

The scramble to see the Vulcan has led to South Yorkshire Police threatening to ban her final flights because they are struggling to cope with the crowds swarming to her Doncaster Airport base every time she takes off and lands.

Vulcan XH558 will be in the skies above Lancashire some time in the afternoon, although precise timings are being witheld until the last minute to avoid another vast turnout in South Yorkshire.
