An on-line petition was immediately launched and within days had hundreds of signatories.

On Saturday a “Show of Support” was organised at the club with hundreds of golfers, residents and local councillors turning out despite the frostbound conditions at the Townhouse Road club.

People came from across the borough to lend their support to the campaign to keep the Nelson course open.

Despite not getting many answers on the day, those who attended will now be delighted to find that they have a year’s grace before the future of the golf course will come under scrutiny again.
