Higham Scarecrow Festival raises £6,000

The festival – the sixth of its kind to be held – saw around 75 effigies put on display by villagers outside their homes.

The trail – one of a number which have been held in Pendle villages this summer – attracted a large crowd of visitors on all three days.

Many had bought maps beforehand to help them find their way around the village, and there was also a crow trail for children to do in which they unravelled an anagram of a children’s book by answering clues.

Spokesman for the organisers Terry Butterfield said: “ The festival was extremely successful – probably the best we have held yet. We also had a traditional fair on the village playing fields which was very popular.

“There were thousands of visitors over the three days and people were passing through the village from start to finish. It was unbelievable – absolutely manic.”

The proceeds from the festival will be divided between the village hall and the church.

“The villagers really rallied round to make the event a great success and I would like to thank all those who supported it in any way,” said Mr Butterfield.
