High school looks forward to move

Hundreds of parents and carers packed Burnley High School for the annual graduation ceremony and awards evening.

The audience heard from headteacher, Miss Vicky Povey, of the huge strides made by the school in the past year. She highlighted the hard work of staff and the remarkable progress made by students in the past 12 months.

Miss Povey also told how the school was looking forward to moving into its new home on the site of the former Habergham High School next year.

“The building is coming on a quite a rate of knots,” she said.

Student Mia Fort, head of the school council, gave a rundown on the school’s successes during the year including the many achievements on the sports field.

In a surprise presentation Burnley Tesco Community Champion Billie-Jean Horne presented year eight Jack Tustin with a special award for his work helping provide food for those in need.

Ms Horne told how Jack had emptied his savings account to provide two trolleys full of produce.
