Hameldon pupil excluded after ‘punching’ teacher

A Burnley school pupil has been excluded after allegedly punching a supply teacher during a lesson this week.

The school said the pupil is temporarily excluded.

The incident took place during a lesson at Hameldon Community College on Tuesday when the teacher was hit by a pupil and a scuffle followed. It was witnessed by pupils and other teachers.

Miss Gill Broom, who is headteacher at the Coal Clough Lane School, issued a statement when contacted by the Express.

It said: “I can confirm that an incident took place at school yesterday involving a supply teacher and a student.

“We have informed the appropriate authorities and an investigation is currently taking place.

“The incident was reported immediately to the agency which provided the supply teacher involved in the incident and to the safeguarding authorities at Lancashire County Council.

“The teacher is no longer in school. I can also confirm that a Year 9 has also been temporarily excluded while an investigation is carried out.”
