Hair and make-up students stage spectacular show
The annual event saw vocational students and apprentices of all levels showcasing their originality and flair in a series of visually impressive competitions.
The evening was attended by more than 100 people, and judging was conducted by local employers and representatives from product manufacturers.
Head of Hair and Beauty at the college Claire Pye said: “The standards at this year’s competition were, once again, incredibly high – we were blown away by the calibre of the entries.
“This event is a real highlight of the Hair and Beauty calendar, and gives our students an amazing platform to be creative with the theoretical and practical knowledge they have developed in the workplace and in Nelson and Colne College’s Distinction salons.
“Thank you to all guests who support this amazing student celebration. We are 100% committed to helping students build a diverse skillset and gain valuable experience for their future careers.
“Each year, we see students progress to top salons across the country, and this year is no different – with students securing exciting opportunities, including working for cruise ships, going off to University and being offered positions within a professional salon.”
The atmosphere at this year’s extravaganza was truly electric, as models showcased an array of remarkable looks – from the Black Swan, to a zebra, to the Queen of Hearts.
Mature student Cathrine Gillen, who won the Level 2 Makeup competition, said: “It was absolutely brilliant, and the atmosphere was very good.
“One of my daughters, who is coming to the college next year to do Media Makeup, was my model for the night – my theme was “70s Disco Diva”, so there was lots of glitter and diamantes.
“I have been given a lot of support during my time at the college and Sam Langstroth, my tutor, has been so inspirational to all students.”
