Gritter ready for more snow in Burnley and Pendle

WITH temperatures set to fall again in the coming few days Lancashire County Council’s gritting crews will be out in force to keep the county moving.

Gritting crews are on standby and will be monitoring the weather forecast closely and crews are well prepared for the possibility of snow.

County Coun. Tim Ashton, Cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “With the short spell of milder weather this week, our gritting teams have had a well-earned respite from long shifts in freezing conditions. However, they are prepared and on standby to deal with the predicted cold snap. We are keeping a close eye on our salt stock levels and are continuing to receive deliveries to our depots.

“We’ve increased our stocks of grit by 35% this year, which means we’re better prepared than ever to deal with the winter weather. By working closely with district and parish councils we have been able to treat footways and refill grit bins more often - this partnership working will continue if the wintry weather persists.”
