Gridlock on the M6 this morning

Drivers reported gridlock south of J31 on the northbound carriageway, although police said there had been no incidents.

Tailbacks stretched as far as Wigan on the M6, with major delays reported.

Highways England said the northbound entry slip road at J31 of the M6 had reopened, following overnight emergency resurfacing.

But drivers reported that lane one of the northbound M6, from J31 to J31a, was still closed.
