Girls enjoy their walking night out

It was a Girls’ Night Out with a difference as hundreds of ladies gathered at Burnley Football Club on Friday night to walk a 10k course for Pendleside Hospice.

The six-mile event, which evolved from the ladies-only Midnight Walk, started at 8pm after a minute’s silence to remember all the loved ones that the women were walking in memory of.

Led by Janine Philp and Jenny McCarthy-Jenkins from Crow Wood Leisure, the walk started and finished at Turf Moor and took in Padiham Road, Sycamore Avenue, Westgate and Yorkshire Street.

Since it started in 2009, the event has raised a staggering £950,000 for Pendleside Hospice.

The charity walk was sponsored by Charter Walk Shopping Centre and Alderson and Horan Funeral Service which meant that more of the money raised in sponsorship went directly towards patient care.

The ladies had a fun night with entertainment before, plus a goody bag, before receiving a medal and a complimentary pie and peas supper at the end.

Those who got a move on could also party longer at the paid bar at Burnley FC which was open until midnight.
