Mr Osborne was visiting Farmhouse Biscuits in Nelson on Thursday on the day the company announced it plans to create up to 20 new jobs in 2015.

The Chancellor toured the Brook Street factory and offices, chatting to shop floor workers and lending a hand on the production line, before meeting bosses including founder and managing director Philip McIvor.

Mr Osborne later confessed that his favourite biscuit is the chocolate digestive but admitted to taking a liking to Farmhouse’s oat flip, the firm’s original and best selling recipe.
