A public meeting will be hosted by Burnley Friends of the Earth and Keep East Lancashire Frack Free later this month.

The meeting will take place at St Leonard’s Church, Church Street, Padiham, on Friday, May 27th, and will debate the fact shale gas and coal bed methane fracking licences have been awarded to drilling companies in much of East Lancashire.

Organisers believe this an urgent matter to discuss as the licence holder can carry out seismic surveys without planning permission.

A spokesman for Keep East Lancashire Frack Free said: “These surveys would involve gaining access to land close to communities to drill exploratory bore holes and set off explosive charges.

“As such a process would have an adverse impact on land and people, Friends of the Earth and Keep East Lancashire Frack Free would urge residents to attend the meeting.”
