Former Nelson & Colne College lecturer dies

retired embroidery teacher and lecturer Dorothy Kendall (pictured below) has died aged 87.

Mrs Kendall, who lived for most of her life in Nelson before moving to Barrowford six years ago, was inspired to take up embroidery by an aunt, and later became a night school lecturer at Nelson and Colne College’s Gawthorpe Hall annexe.

In retirement, she continued to help as a steward at the hall.

In the last two years, she recorded a documentary with the North West Sound Archive which included work carried out between Nelson and Colne College, the hall and the National Trust.

Mrs Kendall created many items of embroidery, including pulpit falls and kneelers, for the old Central Methodist Church, where she was a choir member.

She leaves a son, a brother and two granddaughters.
